H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer

Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer is a banking business expert. He graduated from Cairo University - Faculty of Economics and Political Science (Economics) in 1973.

He was awarded the Arab Banking Personality Award 2006 during the International Arab Banking Summit in Brussels, Belgium. Al Tayer has held many positions and ministerial portfolios such as:

  • Minister of State for Finance and Industry 1983-1997;
  • Acting Minister of Education 1986-1991;
  • Minister of Transportation 1997;
  • Acting Minister of Public Works and Housing (2003-2004).
He has also held a number of other positions, most notably the :

  • Governor of Dubai International Financial Center in 2009;
  • Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports;
  • Minister of Transportation 1997;
  • Acting Minister of Public Works and Housing (2003-2004).
  • Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emirates Nationals Development Programme;
  • Chairman of Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies 2005 – 2011;
  • Chairman of the Human Resource Development Committee in Banking Sector;
  • Chairman of Emirates NBD;
  • Chairman of Commercial Bank of Dubai;
  • Vice Chairman of Dubai Aluminum Company (Dubal);
  • Vice Chairman of Emirates Banks Association;
  • Board Member of Investment Corporation of Dubai;
  • Vice Chairman of ENOC;
  • Member of Dubai’s Supreme Fiscal Committee;
  • Board Member of Beit Al Khair Society;
  • One of the co-founders of the Central Bank of the UAE, Commercial Bank of Dubai and Emirates International Bank before he successfully led its merger with National Bank of Dubai.

He has also been the:

  • Chairman of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat);
  • Chairman of Emirates Transport;
  • Chairman of Emirates Post;
  • Deputy Governor of : The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development;
  • Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development – Kuwait;
  • The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development;
  • Member of the Board of Trustees of the UAE University;
  • Member of the Board of Trustees of Zayed University.
